DESCRIPTION

Brilliant lime-green bird the size of a small crow, with a black mask, chestnut wings, and white tips to tail and innerwing feathers. The common Green Magpie C, chinensis, found lower down in the mountain of Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia, is very similar but has a longer tail, black and white ( not just white) tips to innerwing feathers,  broader black subterminal bar on tail, and sometimes traces of yellow on crown. Both species have a red bill, legs and skin around eye, but this is dark red lake in Short-tailed and brilliant red in Common green

DISTRIBUTION

Resident in the mountain of Borneo and Java; now considered distinct from continental Indochinese Green Magpie C. hypoleuca.

HABITS AND HABITAT

In Sabah and Sarawak this bird replaces the Common Green at c. 900m, and in lower and upper montane forest reaches 2,440m. Although the 2 species' altitudinal range of whistles and buzzing notes and may reveal a solitary bird or small group in dense vegetation of of the middle or lower storey, seeking beetles, caterpillars, snail and others invertebrates.

During shooting of Magpie,  I have a difficulty to take a picture of her -  1st because she move unexpectedly and relatively fast. And secondly, during that time so many new birds around RADAR perched on open branch not far from me, I distracted of this kind of situation- I always afraid to loose some great picture of new bird and which one to be prioritized - And the third reason It was unpredictable weather, sometimes good but then change immediately become misty. The problem during misty, the picture result become blur...  In fact, most of my MAGPIE pictures of are not so clear and sharp, because of mist situation. Regardless of mist situation and blur result, I am  not too much  disappointed and it is  not  futile of  struggling for long distance journey and it is located the up hill of  Mountain Ulu Kali Genting Highland , ... Well it's about 56 KM from KL ...  my friend.

SPECTACLED LAUGHINGTHRUSH

DESCRIPTION 

Bright rufous-chsnut cap and face, with white ring around eye and on forehead; otherwise entirely ashy grey except for white wing-panel and chestnut vent and thighs. Borneo birds have a buff mark only below eye (not entire ring), and slightly ochre tone to breast. Bill and legs bright orange-yelow.

DISTRIBUTION

Resident in mountains of Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo, including both Sabah and Sarawak

HABITS  AND HABITAT

At c. 850 - 2,000 m lower and upper montane forest, from the canopy through the middle and lower storeys of the  forest, but rarely on the ground. Also found in forest edges and secondary growth, including abounded mountain cultivation and fern brakes. Call in repeated 2-note whistle; brea out into a great chorus when among flock members. Nests c. Feb- Jul

ABOUT THE PHOTOS

It is Thursday - 1 Muharram 1434 H today and still in the morning at 7: 22 AM, I met again the fellow who work at RADAR, he is the one who ask me to go to around the  RADAR this early morning  to take a picture of nice birds.   

He just prepared to way home, when I met him at RADAR. He stayed at Ipoh in which 3 hours trip from Genting Highland as his explanation. He still have a room for me just to assist me in pointing in  which place are birds appear, and naming the birds before he left.  His replacement already arrived at 7:00 AM.  He said:" You are lucky to be here in this morning, looks by yourself the whether is good, right?"

There are so many new birds so as I know around the RADAR, however only a few I can take a picture due to bad whether, the rest aren't so good photo due to mist went down or disallow me to take a picture becuase only a few minute later the rain went down. However, I have a bonus when I took the photo LAUGHINGTHRUS, becuse the whether are still good and bright as per below photo

DESCRIPTION

Pale dusky brown all over, more buff below and more grey-brown above; entire underparts lightly streaked brown; crown, back and rump lightly scaled black

DISTRIBUTION

Resident from easternmost Himalayas and S Yunnan trough southeast Asia to mountains of Peninsular Malaysia, including Pulau Tioman but not Singapore

HABITS AND HABITAT

Thai Populations are confined to lowland forest, but in N Peninsular Malaysia and Pulau Tioman it is found on middle slopes, and further S it occurs in lower montane forest at 750-c. 2,000m altitude. An insectivore, living on the ground alone or in pairs. Also nests on the ground Dec-Jun. Gives loud 2-4 note whistles.

2. THE FIRST VISIT

STREAKED WREN-BABBLER@ Ulu Kali Genting. She is very tame not seems a wild animal

It was  10 :15 AM, November 14th 2012  when I reached to Ulu Kali mountain beside of Genting Highland resort area.  The sun is too hot for the high mountain such as Genting. In my humble observation, some of birds are dismiss and hide at below tree as I have no sound to hear that indicate any bird. 

I parked my car heading toward Genting instead to RADAR. I feel no regret even come late, but I believe in Allah power that I will find a bird at least one. As because  I felt  I have conquered my needs against my my wife need, that she just need to service my car at workshop before I went to Genting. . 

After look around at below hill  at Ulu Kali, one of the Telkom operator that standby 24 hours - was ask me to go to the top hill at RADAR area, He continued: " if you lucky, you will meet Wak Long, he  is a security but he also bird photography maniac" 

I went up the hill, It was the very top  at Genting Highland location where you can find A RADAR office. The sign board said  similiar like " RESTRICTED  AREA - " And I disallowed  to take a picture as well as near by the RADAR Station. But, suddenly I met with some one with his camera taking a picture later I knew that he  also work at RADAR Station.  

He brought the womb at plastic bucket and start feeding this wild bird. I did not expect that  Streaked Babler were very tame with us even the bird should be wild animal. She then come closer to me, I took a shot as many as I can.

After look around at below hill  at Ulu Kali, one of the Telkom operator that standby 24 hours - was ask me to go to the top hill at RADAR area, He continued: " if you lucky, you will meet Wak Long, he  is a security but he also bird photography maniac" 

I went up the hill, It was the very top  at Genting Highland location where you can find A RADAR office. The sign board said  similiar like " RESTRICTED  AREA - " And I disallowed  to take a picture as well as near by the RADAR Station. But, suddenly I met with some one with his camera taking a picture later I knew that he  also work at RADAR Station.  

He brought the womb at plastic bucket and start feeding this wild bird. I did not expect that  Streaked Babler were very tame with us even the bird should be wild animal. She then come closer to me, I took a shot as many as I can.

It was  10 :15 AM, November 14th 2012  when I reached to Ulu Kali mountain beside of Genting Highland resort area.  The sun is too hot for the high mountain such as Genting. In my humble observation, some of birds are dismiss and hide at below tree as I have no sound to hear that indicate any bird. 

I parked my car heading toward Genting instead to RADAR. I feel no regret even come late, but I believe in Allah power that I will find a bird at least one. As because  I felt  I have conquered my needs against my my wife need, that she just need to service my car at workshop before I went to Genting. .
