SPOTTED DOVE

The Spotted Dove

The Spotted Dove (Streptopelia chinensis) is a small and somewhat long-tailed pigeon which is a common resident breeding bird across its native range on the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The species has been introduced into many parts of the world and feral populations have become established. There is considerable plumage variations across populations within its wide range. The species is found in light forests and gardens as well as in urban areas. They fly off from the ground with an explosive flutter and will sometimes glide down to a perch. It is sometimes also called the Chinese Dove, Mountain Dove, Pearl-necked Dove or Lace-necked Dove.

DESCRIPTION

IORA AT TAMAN LAYANG-LAYANG KEPONG
I sat under the three after looked around a bird as usually we call bird hunting at FRIM - near by my current location at Taman Layang2 Kepong.  I just took a rest for a while under the tree. The wind blow softly into my face,  so fresh, under  hot  and shiny sun at that day. I was watching and reviewing some of my photos during bird hunting at FRIM when  suddenly, I detected a bright little creature perch on branch and flew from tree to tree above me. This creature which was IORA  just only 2 up 3 meter distance from me. I thought she was not realize my availability near by her .  I did not have a time to wait for shoot because it was beautiful, and one thing that special to IORA is her movement so erratically fast.
I like  those IORA photos among other photo because of the sharpness of this photo, it should be because between the light facing to the bird, foreground, background, they are really match. This combination between sharpness and color tone is beyond my expectation actually. Thanks folks to give all the comments.

PEACEFUL DOVE

The Peaceful Dove

The Peaceful Dove (Geopelia placida) is a pigeon native to Australia and New Guinea. It is closely related to the Zebra Dove of south-east Asia and the Barred Dove of eastern Indonesia. Until recently, the three were classed as a single species, Geopelia striata, known as Peaceful Dove or Zebra Dove.
The bird is a relatively small pigeon and varies in length from 19 to 21 centimetres (7.6 to 8.4 inches). The Peaceful Dove has a pink-grey breast with chequered grey-brown wings. Thin striations of black appear around the neck and nape area and descend down the back. The eye is greyish-white and a blue-grey ring surrounds the eye that tapers off and joins the beak/cere. The juveniles are paler and less striated. They also have a duller eye ring. The nape is similar to that of the Bar-shouldered dove in that the nape feathers are striated but differs in that the Bar-shouldered dove does not have striated throat feathers like the Peaceful Dove. Furthermore, the nape feathers are grey-brown in colour compared to the vivid copper colour seen with Bar-shouldered doves.
Calls of the Peaceful Dove are high-pitched "doodle-doo", "co-co-coo" and "croorrr!".

DESCRIPTION

Overall brownish plumage with slightly darker shade on head, mantle and wings; heavily barred on nape, sides and flanks; forehead and chin slightly ashy. Eye rings light blue, legs pinkish.

DISTRIBUTION

Myanmar and  Southeast Asia Australia. Resident in Malaysia and  Singapore

HABITS and HABITAT

Commonly seen in open  country, plantations, garden.  in pairs or solitary, Forages mainly on the ground . Very vocal and can be surprisingly tames and confiding at times. Call is an initial flourish followed by a series of single notes, Coodle-oo coo coo coo .... ; individual variation in the call is the basis for popular bird-singing competition

PHOTOS

Those below photos are taken by me- I admit that some of the photos need to be improved in the quality as specially on the angle, lighting direction - It is quite challenging and very tough task to shoot a photo  a birds especially for a small birds as they are very sensitive to the human and  small movements and sound. Looking for the birds in surrounding of the tree are also quite difficult task, sometimes I have to increase my sense in any small movement between the leaves while in the same times I have to be ready to recompose  my  camera. Sometimes I have to scarify to use AV mode instead of manual mode in shooting very active movement of the birds however with my CANON 5D Mark#3 in my hand, it is very really helpful  in facing  that kind of situation. As a photographer, I am very satisfy so far with CANON 5D  Mark#3, yes it is true it is delightful  and can be captured wonderful as well as  great moment.

ABOUT THE PHOTO AND DATE TAKEN

Not many birds, I can find towards to the end of the hunting at afternoons. I feel give-up, and I have to consider to end up my hunting session because Wafi is requested me to consider to go back to KL soonest as he actually have a plan to play a futsal with his friend at Kuala Lumpur even tough he'll play it at night. I am also responsible of my wrong doing to my daughter  Zata Yumni and my wife  Geulis, because I left them at  Horse Ridding while we take a bird shooting. Yumni then called me, two or three times, to urge us to perform Shalat Zuhur and invite to take a lunch together - because it was a lunch hour.

My Family

Regret of my family situation while in the same time, I also think that my friend enthusiastic, because he  still in the mode  to take a bird shoot as many as possible in that afternoon, I have no choice to have a right decision. In this kind feeling while a I frequent whistle, this birds is appear and perched on the branch as you see in the picture
