BANDED WOODPECKER
Chrysophlegma mineaceus

DESCRIPTION
One of several Yellow crested Woodpeckers. Rufous head and throat are diagnostic, merging into barred green back and irregularly buff and brown - banded breast and belly. Rump yellow, wings crimson. In females, sides of face are duller with more white speckles.
DISTRIBUTION
Resident in Java, Sumatra, Nias, Borneo, Bangka, Belitung, Singapore and northward trough Peninsular Malaysia to c. 13 degN in Peninsular Thailand.
HABITS and HABITAT
Inhabits the middle of tall secondary forest, parks, gardens and forest edges, up to c. 1,200 m. Maybe located by its loud, repeated scream, kwee, kwee
